Northwoods Journal Northwoods Journal, a magazine for working writers, is listed in Writer's Digest's Best 50 Fiction Markets. It is a carefully produced magazine featuring a full color cover. It is generally about 36-48 pages long, with almost no ads, and full pages. It's a lot bigger than it looks. If it had the typical number of ads that a commercial magazine has, it would be over 80 pages big. Northwoods Journal offers writers an excellent of publication. Due to our small reading fees, we receive a small number of submissions, (their purpose). Publication "credits" help build a writer's career. We have lots of room in our pages for career building. If you submit good work, you're likely to sell to the Journal. More than 90% of work submitted to major publishers is never read by anyone, but someone with "YES" authority reads every piece submitted. Most small presses pay nothing, but a couple of copies they can't sell anyway. We, on the other hand, do not pay in copies. We actually sell what we print. Our circulation runs 150 to200--SOLD each issue. Most small-press magazines don't sell half that many. Many don't actually "sell" any. Submit to the Journal. Your manuscript will actually be read by an editor with the authority to accept. While the Northwoods Journal is a magazine for working writers, it is not a how-to (though it may contain a few how-to elements), it is a showcase. Writers get to show off their finest works through legitimate, paid publication. Everything published in the Northwoods Journal, a magazine for working writers, is paid for on acceptance. The Journal does not require any purchase, subscription, or membership. As an editor of a science fiction magazine said at a recent writers' conference: "Anyone who submits to a magazine he/she's never seen deserves whatever happens to them." Sample copy available for $6.50 and 6 X 9 SASE with $1.03 postage affixed. Or for $9.75 post paid. Or next issue for $6.50.
